Liaising with parkrun HQ and supporting us through the application process, in training and supporting us on the day.Īnd to the core volunteer team - made up of runners from the Cleobury Mortimer Running Club. We are very grateful to Richard Ralphs, our parkrun ambassador who put in so much work behind the scenes. Thanks to Dale Evans and Wyre Forest District Council for sourcing the funding for this event, it has taken a while to get it off the ground so we are grateful to their patience in sticking with the project and bringing it to the beautiful Wyre Forest. As this is our first event, there are several people I need to thank as without their help we wouldn't have been able to start. We are overjoyed to join the parkrun family and now be a part of 353 other events in the UK. Welcome to the first ever Wyre Forest parkrun run report

We do need more volunteers to come forward and I'd like to put out a special request for any keen photographers to help us out - it would be great to have some pics not taken by my 4 year old - and also for volunteer run report writers. Once again, a big thank you to all the volunteers who made this week's event happen: I took my own children along to 'assist' me with cheering and clapping (sorry to say that the 4 year old with the kiddizoom camera did not get many decent finishing photographs but we've got a few years to train her up) and I hope that parkrun will become part of our family life for many years to come, and part of yours too.

And its also great to see that the course can be fully enjoyed by runners with buggies too. It was especially nice to greet more families and youngsters this week - what we hope will be the future of this event. It was a real joy to see each and every one of you cross the finish line, particularly those that had ran the inaugural and come back for more! I want to give a special mention to Jayne Hill who took exactly 3 minutes off her finishing time from last week and has joined us after graduating from a C25k programme which she completed on a treadmill - how amazing to see her running up the final hill. But after the success of the inaugural it was time to gently start letting local runners know what we were up to and to start growing the event naturally.Īnd news had obviously spread as 111 runners turned up this Saturday, of which 68 were first timers. We'd kept the inaugural quiet locally, as a novice team of volunteers (many of whom were relatively new to parkrun ourselves), we didn't want to be overwhelmed on day one preferring if possible to ease ourselves in to our new roles gently. As was our excitement afterwards at how well it went. Inaugurals are always special and attract lots of tourists, so numbers were obviously going to be high for event number one. We weren't really sure what to expect for our second event. Now that I have caught up on some sleep I can focus on my keyboard a little better. Apologies for the delay in this week's report, I dashed off for a run of my own after this week's event - to be part of a team at the Joust24 endurance race in Worcester.
